5 Olympic Sports You Can Use To Totally Turbo Boost Your Workout

The Rio Olympics are in full force - regardless of controversy surrounding junk food sponsorship and the real success (or lack thereof) of the 2012 Olympics, we’re seeing amazing examples of peak fitness.

That’s because for these athletes, their respective sports are an incredible total body workout!

You see a lot of people call themselves “athletic” with very top/bottom heavy physiques, but these guys and girls have the whole package.
So why not apply these to your own workout for a real turbo boost of athletic performance? Here are five Olympic sports you should really make part of your fitness plan.

1. Triathlon (Swim, Run, Bike)

The classic triathlon is an AMAZING total-body workout.



Cross-training multiple areas in the body means your muscles don’t settle to a particular workout – leading to greater gains in mass and loss of fat. Not only this, but triathlon training is great cardio!

What this type of exercise will do is create something called muscle confusion – your muscle tissue will not be able to adapt to your workouts, as you’re continuously keeping it fresh by switching between swimming, running and cycling.

All you have to do is add these three to your workout, probably a couple times a week. You’ll feel HUGE benefits in cardiovascular and endurance fitness!

2. Football

Have a kick about with mates for some epic endurance training!



You’ve probably seen many footballers grace magazine covers with incredible physiques – that’s because playing the beautiful game is a one-way ticket to a well-defined body with lean mass.

There’s a reason why male and female football stars are a hit in fitness magazines… Not only is it amazing visibly for the body, it’s a great endurance trainer and a massive confidence boost.

Football is a team sport – all that camaraderie of playing with your mates is AMAZING for your self-esteem.

3. Track

Stop the debate between High and Low Intensity training and improve your anaerobic endurance with some track.

Short bursts of repetitive muscle movements are great for building up those muscle fibres that help you with speed. Supplement interval sprints into your workout for peak performance.

Track athletes are usually amongst the leanest and most well defined athletes at the Olympics. Take this lesson in your stride and smash some sprint intervals a couple of times a week for scoring those fitness goals fast.

4. Martial Art/Combat Sport

Not much needs to be said about the benefits of combat sports – a full physical and mental workout makes this a real treat to have in your arsenal.



Anything like Taekwondo, Judo or Boxing gives you strength, endurance, cardiovascular, aerobic and anaerobic training. Plus, it’s a good boost for your self-confidence!

But the benefits don’t stop there… Supplementing your workout with martial arts training will empower you to handle yourself in times of danger. And it’s a cracking stress release – imagine those who have annoyed you at work and punch them. HARD.

5. Swimming

If you’re looking for a workout to just target all of your body fast, look no further than swimming.



With every length, you’ve strengthening your body and its ability to provide oxygen to your whole respiratory system. You can also switch up your strokes and vary the muscle groups you work.

This is a great aerobic exercise with big body benefits – you can see that with the lean, well defined swimmers you see on the Olympic TV coverage! This is a body you can achieve by adding swimming into your workout too.
