THE IMPORTANCE OF MENTAL HEALTH

2 min read

On the 10th of October it’s World Mental Health Day, as MuscleFood is a health & fitness brand it is important to signify mental health as well as physical health. This blog should touch every reader's heart and give everyone an understanding of how important it is to understand mental health.

As a business we have decided to create a hashtag #starttheconversation ! We want to encourage the ever growing conversation on the importance of mental health and why speaking out can be so beneficial to those suffering and to others who are wanting to understand.

So let's start the conversation today…

1 in 4 people will experience a mental health problem of some kind each year in England. This is an astonishing figure and speaks complete volume. Mental health problems are on the rise, as much as we would love to change this ourselves it takes a collective.

Using our #starttheconversation we want to inspire individuals to open up on how they’re feeling and to not be afraid to reach out to those they feel comfortable with during a time of struggle. We need to break the stigma and stop suffering in silence.

During a study from Priory Private Healthcare 40% of men have never spoken out regarding their mental health, with 29% referring to the topic as ‘too embarrassing’ and the other percent speaking on the negative stigma that men cannot speak out on these topics.

As a society we have grown and adapted and mental health has been brought to the forefront of our minds, through social media, celebrities speaking out and a high representation in the media. Though, as we can see, a sigma still remains.

This is why we cannot hold the conversation on mental health, why this topic needs to be discussed time and time again and why we will not refrain from encouraging those around us to speak out and not suffer in silence. .

Tips:
1. Make sure to reach out to people, there are loved ones in your life who are there to acknowledge your feelings and help you out
2. Spend time outside enjoying your surroundings, nature improves mood and reduces feelings of stress & anger
3. Do more exercise, exercise is a great way to increase your endorphins
4. Establish a routine to help set a regular sleep schedule
5. Try doing something creative to help distract you from your feelings
