Is Breakfast The Most Important Meal of the Day?

Whether you choose to have Porridge oats at 7am, scrambled eggs on toast at 9am or skip the typical breakfast foods altogether, is breakfast your most important meal of the day?

I believe it is ONE of the most important meals of the day, but when you choose to have it or what type of foods you consume for it will differ from person to person based on their lifestyle and fitness goals.

Some days I have breakfast at 8am, and some days I have breakfast at midday! 12 o’clock? But isn’t that lunch time? Yes, it is, but if it’s my first meal of the day that’s when I’ve chosen to ‘break’ my ‘fast’, which creates the word breakfast.

I feel the argument of ‘breakfast is the most important meal’ is simply based on people believing what they are told to believe.

Is it bad to go throughout the whole morning and not eat a single thing? Does this mean your metabolism won’t kick start? Or is your potential to lose weight is shortened? Definitely not! It’s a myth!

I know a lot of fitness fanatics (myself included) who do at times fast throughout their morning and possibly train on an empty stomach too! If you prefer to work out with a good meal inside you then that’s great go for it.

As I understand that some people will feel dizzy, sluggish and won’t be able to perform to their maximum potential. This is all down to personal preference, your goals and your lifestyle! Here are a few points to take on board…

What should I eat for Breakfast?

Again, this will come down to a person’s personal preference.

However, I do agree that it is one of the most important meals of the day, so I would always advise on a well-balanced breakfast. Especially as you’ve been asleep for 6-8 hours, which is a long time to go without giving your body any nutrition.

Some of us may be having a late breakfast too, so we could be looking at 8,10,12 hours or even longer without feeding our bodies.

Therefore, aim for a mixture of proteins, complex carbs, simple carbs and fats.

However, if you feel sluggish and heavy by consuming carbs in the morning then it wouldn’t hurt to just get on board a protein source with some good fats in there!
